The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness was an awesome book! It is about a boy named Todd who is told to leave Prentisstown fast by his two father figures, Ben and Cillian. Prentisstown is a town full of men only. No women at all. They were all killed by the germ that the Spackle let out during the war. (You aren’t supposed to know what Spackle are yet so it’s okay!) Oh, and one more thing about Prentisstown: every single being has Noise. Noise is like someone’s thoughts and memories floating all around them in a messy collage of sounds, colors, words, and pictures for everyone to hear and see. Men have it, dogs have it, sheep have it, everything alive has it. And it can’t be stopped or blocked out. (Yeah, I know. A lot of explaining!) Todd and his talking dog, Manchee then set out on a life changing adventure! When they’re at the swamp, they hear a hole of silence. Then the silence is running-then it disappears again- then reappears again- where Todd finds a girl, a real live girl behind a tree. (This is the first female Todd has ever seen in his life, so he’s pretty surprised.) All through the story, Todd, Manchee, and this girl named Viola go on a crazy awesome adventure!
This is probably one of my new favorite books! It’s part of a series called Chaos Walking and all of the books are by Patrick Ness. I haven’t read the other books in this series YET. There is a good bit of cussing in the book: Sh-, D-, Hell, and F. Yes, it does say the actual F word a few times but he usually replaces it with”eff” or “effing”. One last thing: this author is from the UK, so he’ll spell some words differently. Example: metres. And he spells some words all wrong. I don’t know if it’s on purpose or what. Example: explanashun. I loved this book! I’d recommend it to people 11 and older.
